Vaping

Information about vaping

Vaping is when you breathe in an aerosol produced by a vaping product. These products are also known as e-cigarettes, vapes, or vape pens.

Vaping and addiction

Some vaping products contain nicotine. These can cause the user to become addicted to nicotine.

Other vaping products do NOT contain nicotine. Still, while these products do NOT contain nicotine, they do contain other harmful chemicals. We do not yet know how harmful these products are.

Whether vaping products contain nicotine or not, they can lead to harmful behaviour:

  • People who vape may move on to tobacco products like cigarettes.
  • Vaping can lead people to believe that smoking is a normal behaviour.

We do not yet understand the full effects of vaping. It can take many years for the harm to show up. As a result, vaping products are not, and never have been, approved as quit-smoking aids.

Vaping is never the right option for teens or anyone who has never smoked. There is good evidence about the potential harms of vaping.
